What happens when you come to see us?

You can come to the drop in and speak to an advice worker. When you come in, you will be asked if you have been here before so we can find any previous notes. We will then have a chat with you about what you have come for.  However before we do that we will explain a bit more about Youth Start and how our confidentiality works. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. After this we will talk about the reason for your visit. This can be about any issue that you want advice, information, support or counselling around.

One-to-One Support

If we can help you and provide you with the information you need there and then, we will do so. However, sometimes young people find it useful to come and see us several times to sort things out. So we may arrange with you to see you on a weekly basis for a short period of time. One-to-one support means that we can give you ongoing support on an issue that may be on your mind at that time and causing you to feel worried or down. It is your choice how long you want this for. Sometimes a young person may feel that they would prefer counselling, and we can arrange this for them.

Depending on the reason for your visit, we may suggest that you see another agency or project which specialises more in that area.  We might be able to arrange it on our premises but we would always offer to go with you if it entailed a visit to another place.  For example, if you needed to see a nurse or doctor about a sexual health matter we would suggest to come to our Sexwise clinic where specialised staff would be better placed to help you.
